July - Thanks to Matt in Australia, Murray took possession of copies of a very comprehensive study of the Aussie Pakes'. Murray's task, now,is to try and add some value to this research, particularly at the UK (Filgrave) end. He is not sure how long this will take - over recent months he has received quite a lot of uncollated data and is currently running about 6 months behind. It's a bit like London buses - you go a long time without seeing one, then four come together. It's been the same with this research!
5 September - Established Filgrave to be birth place of the Australian Pakes'.
9 September - Contact made with 2nd line of UK Pakes', and 'Open Letter' to all Pakes', updated and re-issued.
12 September - Short visit to Tyringham Church and Filgrave, Buckinghamshire. A visit to the picturesque village of Filgrave took place on 12 September. Armed with digital camera Murray spent an hour in Filgrave village and Tyringham Church. A further visit will be necessary after more research. However Murray found two grave stones, both in a very weathered state and in need of some cleaning. Go to link.
15 September - Pictorial record of Murray's visit to Filgrave on 12 September uploaded to website.
19 September 03 - Murray's 'Tribal Pages' updated, more names and photos added.
5 October - Registered with 1837.com.
2004
21 February - First contact with South African Pakes'. In February, and out of the blue, Murray received an email from South Africa introducing another line of Pakes'. More information is promised in due course. Murray waits in anticipation.
8 March - Official birth of two related 'Associated' One Name Studies. Those of Rawlings and Southey.
11 March - Visit to Murray's Uncle Michael. New information about the Luton Pakes'. A very productive family visit to Murray's Uncle Michael took place on 11 March. Michael, not in the best of health, and his wife Thelma, added significantly to the large amount of information he has already supplied concerning his own ancestors and other Pakes' from the Luton, Bedfordshire area. Of greatest interest to Murray was the fact that his Grandfather, Arthur Frederick Pakes, was not as was previously thought, wounded at Gallipoli, but later in the Great War when in Palestine.
14 March - Finished data-cleansing exercise. Current situation report is that my AZZ Cardfile dbase (my primary Index) now holds 1074 records of 'Pakes' and associated names linked to my research. The recently introduced 'Custodian' Genealogy Research dbase has currently 584 'active' records and is growing on a daily basis. However the bulk of my current work is collating my 'unindexed' research - currently estimated at over 3000 entries and also growing.
27 March - Contact made with a 3rd line of UK Pakes'. Descendants of William Frederick Pakes.
2 July - Second, unrelated, contact with South African Pakes'.
20 August - Letter received from Leominster (UID 854).
24 August - Communication received from a Pakes' family in Birmingham - possible descendants of the King's Norton Pakes.
